This morning we had to bid farewell to the bed and breakfast in Limeuil. It was an amazing place to stay, with a breathtaking view of the Valley and Dordogne River from our room as well as 1 friendly cat and 3 dogs, a little French girl who always seemed to be chasing said cat and 3 dogs, and a fantastic restaurant (where the salads were proudly 'made' by the little French girl). All in all, a wonderful stay, and we were sad to leave.
After leaving Limeuil, we went on down the road to Les-Eyzies, the village where the museum, and our new housing is. We're actually staying at a 'boarding house' affiliated with the museum, and had no idea what to expect when we arrived. We were however, very, very, very pleasantly surprised.
The boarding house has 4 bedrooms where researchers from all over the world stay while studying collections at the museum. See those two little windows on the third floor in the back? That's our room.
In addition to this living area (the skylight above the bed is spectacular, but is closed in this picture) we have two closets, a little table, and a bathroom with toilet, sink, and big shower. We share a kitchen with the other 3 guests in the house which include two French researchers, and a researcher from China. We were elated to have access to a kitchen again, and as we speak Alex is making tacos!
I'll leave you with this view of the museum (from the front yard of our house). We spent the majority of the day here looking at the rocks in the collection. During lunch we walked down to the 'farmer's' market and purchased a baguette, some cheese, a crepe, olive tapenade, and brought it back to the dining room to munch on. The rest of this week will be spent in the museum, and out and about looking for more rocks.
While we miss our view from Limeuil, it's fun to be living in town where the bakery (with pain chocolat) is only feet away!
