France Day 7: 6/4/10

France Day 7: 6/4/10: Today was a "go out and find rocks kind of day".  We started out by deciding where to go first (Alex has about 7 different samples he wants to collect, and has geological maps of the country where these samples reside). We decided on Bergerac first because it was the closest, and the rocks would hopefully be the easiest to find.
"Easy to find" translated into a full day of driving around random, obscure bits of country road, taking hour long hikes through weeds, and getting completely filthy. But we had a LOT of fun and were able to see beautiful villages along the way. For example...
I was actually surprised by our good fortune. We ended up with a LOT of Bergerac (the particular type of flint we were looking for today) and it also turns out that I have a particularly good eye for finding the stuff, and am able to lug a lot of the it around, through various terrain, back to the car.
Not only did we find a LOT of flint, what we found was quite significant in size.

But of all the pieces of flint we found, there was one that was surpassed them all, the one Alex refers to as "the one that got away". Sadly, we were unable to move it, and feared that the little Peugeot would be unable to transport it safely. A sad loss for Alex. But another fun day in France!
